Outaouais

The Outaouais Community Justice Center (OCJC) has for mission to promote access to justice for citizens of the Outaouais region, by offering legal information, support and referral services, in complement with existing resources.

Our services

All our services are free and confidential, regardless of your income or the legal nature of your problem. Our services are available by telephone or in person.

More precisely, we can :

  • Provide you with legal information to help you make enlightened decisions and be better oriented and prepared in the legal system;
  • Refer you to an external organization or resource for additional support;
  • Put at your disposal a computer and telephone to facilitate your research and the preparation of legal documents;
  • Offer you a broad range of brochures and materials concerning legal matters.

Please note that our jurists have to limit themselves to offering you legal information. They will therefore not be able to provide you with a legal opinion or advice with regard to your particular situation.

WHAT TYPES OF QUESTIONS MAY ONE ASK?

We are generalists. We deal with legal questions regarding everyday situations:

  • How can I cancel the child support I am paying?;
  • How does the repossession of a dwelling work?
  • How do I execute a judgment?
  • I bought a used car that no longer works. What are the vendor’s obligations?

We do not answer questions requiring specialized knowledge, such as:

  • Patents;
  • Laws and regulations of another province or country.

We have limited knowledge in certain areas of law, such as:

  • All appeals (Supreme Court of Canada, Cour of Appeal, Superior Court, Court of Québec etc.);
  • Injunction, contempt of court and judicial review;
  • Bankruptcy;
  • Tax law;
  • Immigration law;
  • Corporate law / Business start-up;
  • Prison law;
  • Youth protection;
  • Intellectual property;
  • Class actions;
  • Labor law;
  • International law.
